Bowling Anyone? Check Out Splitsville Luxury Lanes™

By admin

splitsville-disneySplitsville is a place where you can enjoy retro-style bowling and tasty food when visiting the West Side of Downtown Disney.  While Splitsville Luxury Lanes is part of a chain, the Orlando location has special Disney touches throughout, including some Disney-themed bowling balls and a few “Hidden Mickeys”!

In addition to bowling, Splitsville offers an impressive menu filled with classic favorites such as specialty pizza and burgers but also features many items that you won’t find at a “normal” bowling alley.  Celebrity chef, Tim Cushman introduces items like Steak Alfredo, fresh rolled sushi and a Spicy Veggie Bowl along with tempting salads and scrumptious desserts.  The menu is huge! Food and drink service is available in the dining room, outside on the patio or right at your lane when you make a separate bowling reservation. 14727628626_bcd9f31646_n

Splitsville is a colossal complex with 50,000 square feet of entertainment, decorated with dazzling lights and vintage bowling motifs.  There are 30 bowling lanes, five bars with big screen televisions as well as billiard tables and a merchandise shop.  You will find plenty of exciting entertainment with a DJ spinning tunes or a live band. It’s the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon, a late night or spare time away from the theme parks.  Early-bird specials are often offered on bowling.  Splitsville has packages available for occasions like birthdays, bachelor parties and other special events. To make bowling lane reservations for your party, visit the Splitsville website or call (407) 938-PINS.  You do not have to bowl in order to dine at Splitsville. Advance dining reservations through Disney are recommended but not always necessary.

Roll in and rock out!  Come for the food but stay for some entertainment and bowling!  Be sure to include a trip to Splittsville during your next Walt Disney World vacation.

Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant

By admin

The Electrical Water Pageant is a dazzling display of floating lights that travel across the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, just outside of Disney’s Magic Kingdom Theme Park. It has long been a favorite of vacationers since 1971 and was the predecessor to the Main Street Electrical Parade.

Electrical Water PageantThe parade floats and music have changed a bit throughout the years but the overall theme remains the same. It is a short parade – less than 10 minutes long, featuring sparkling, creative sea creatures that transform into patriotic themed twinkling lights on 40-ft. barges. The current floats include:

  • Four Sea Serpents
  • Whale
  • Octopus
  • Three Jumping Dolphins
  • Brachiosaurus
  • Turtle
  • Crocodile
  • Four Seahorses
  • Neptune

Electronic musical selection from The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan are played as the water parade progresses. As the barges pass, they transform into the patriotic theme including stars, stripes and American flags as the music changes to traditional American patriotic songs.

Some of the best places to view the Electrical Water Pageant include:

  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort– Beginning at 9:00 PM
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa– Beginning at 9:15 PM
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge– Beginning at 9:30 PM
  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground– Beginning at 9:45 PM
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort– Beginning at 10:10 PM
  • Just outside the entrance of Magic Kingdom park – Beginning at 10:35 PM, during Extended Theme Park Hours only

When Wishes Nighttime Spectacular takes place at 10:00 PM, the Electrical Water Pageant will begin shortly following its conclusion

The Electrical Water Pageant may be cancelled in inclement weather. Be sure to be on the lookout for this little extra dose of Disney Magic during your next Disney World vacation!

Creating a Stress Free Disney World Vacation

By admin

disney packing dtpPlanning a Disney vacation can be a daunting task! With advance planning and these tips, you can have the best Disney vacation ever!

Decide when to go – A little online research or the help of a Travel Agent can help you choose the best time of year to visit. Of course, your vacation schedule may depend on work or school but pick a less-crowded season if at all possible. Plan to stay as long as your budget will allow.

Decide where to stay – The benefits of staying at a Disney Resort are endless! By choosing a Deluxe Resort, you’ll be closer to the parks and enjoy more amenities. If you select a Moderate or Value Resort, you may be able to stay longer and still be able to enjoy all the perks of staying onsite. By building some ‘down time’ into the trip, you can enjoy the pool and other amenities of your resort.

Learn about the parks before you leave home – Make yourself familiar with the layout of the park by ordering free customized maps from Disney’s website.  Or, invest in a current travel guide from the bookstore. You’ll save valuable park time by knowing in advance where you’re going and how to get there.

Start your packing list early – While you don’t need to take the ‘kitchen sink’, there are things you will need to carry along. By making a list, you will be certain to have important things like your phone charger, sunscreen and ponchos when you need them.  Trust me, you’ll need them!

Condition your body – A complaint I often hear from guests is how much their feet hurt from so much walking.  Start a walking regimen before leaving home and your body will thank you.  Be sure to take your most comfortable shoes along – don’t buy new ones for the occasion!

Have realistic expectations – While it’s important to make advance reservations for dining and attractions, allow enough flexibility for spur of the moment entertainment, meltdowns and bathroom breaks. Realize that you just can’t do it all… this time!

Enjoy Tonga Toast at Home

By admin

Some foods are unique to Disney but you can recreate a little Disney magic in your own kitchen.  It’s a great way to ward off the post-Disney World vacation depression. It’s also fun to prepare Disney recipes leading up to a much anticipated trip!

tonga toast lmpTonga Toast is served at Kona Café and Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Filled with bananas and topped with cinnamon sugar, it’s a sweet start to your day!

Tonga Toast Recipe

Serves 4
Ingredients:
Sugar-Cinnamon Ingredients:
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Batter Ingredients:
4 large eggs
1 1/3 cup whole milk
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Tonga Toast Ingredients:
1 quart canola oil, for frying
1 loaf sourdough bread (uncut, 12 inches long)
2 large bananas, peeled

Instructions:
For cinnamon-sugar:
1. Mix sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl (large enough to roll toast) with a fork until thoroughly blended. Set aside.

For batter:
1. Whip eggs in medium bowl (large enough to dip toast) until well beaten. Add milk, cinnamon, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.

For Tonga toast:
1. Preheat oil to 350 degrees F in a large pot or a deep fryer. (If using a large pot, use a candy thermometer to make certain the oil does not get any hotter or it will burn.)
2. Slice the bread into four three-inch-thick slices.
3. Cut each banana in half crosswise, then each piece lengthwise.
4. Place a bread slice flat on the counter and tear out just enough from the middle (do not tear all the way through) to stuff half a banana into; repeat with each bread slice.
5. Dip stuffed bread into batter, covering both sides, allowing excess batter to drip off bread and place carefully into hot oil.
6. Cook 4-5 minutes until golden brown. If needed, turn toast over after 2 minutes and cook for another 2 minutes on other side. Remove and drain excess oil.
7. Roll toast in cinnamon-sugar. Repeat for each piece of toast.

Five Fun Facts about Disney Cruise Line

By admin

IMG_1161

  1. The Buena Vista Theatre is the place to be to watch all of the first run movies onboard the ship. The theatre is based on the three theatres that premiered Snow White.
  2. The Mystery of the Black Hull: When Disney was designing the Disney Magic they wanted the ship to look like a classic oceanliner and stick to the color scheme of Mickey Mouse. Classic ships had a black hull but Disney thought black looked too gloomy. They found the color they wanted when a Disney employee named Monica entered the room wearing dark blue pants. Thanks to Monica the hull of the ship is painted Monica Blue.
  3. Deck 5 is kid sized. The Oceaneer’s Club, Oceaneer’s Lab, and Nursery are located on Deck 5. There are lots of super sized toys in the youth clubs and you will notice that Deck 5 is not quite as tall as the other decks.
  4. Disney Cruise Line is the only cruise line with rotational dining. Guests rotate between three different themed restaurants throughout their cruise while being served by the same service team in each location.
  5. Disney received special permission from the U.S. Coast Guard to paint their lifeboats yellow instead of the traditional orange to keep with the Mickey Mouse color scheme.

  3. Prepare for Shopping– There will be plenty of opportunities to shop during your cruise vacation. If you do not travel very often make sure you call you bank and let them know your plans.
